Nokia finally announced the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 Symbian smartphones officially. We’re suprised with the thin body of this E-series QWERTY phone, at only 10mm the Nokia E71 is one of the thinnest phones we’ve ever seen exit the doors of the Finnish giant.

Nokia E71 and Nokia E66

Nokia E71

The Nokia E71 has got a full hardware QWERTY keypad, a successor of the Nokia E61i. The Nokia E71 brings much more style to the E-series since it packs a waistline of only 10mm, but there’s still plenty of room for everything we’d expect out of an E series phone like WiFi, HSDPA, A-GPS (which works with Nokia Maps) and even a 3.2 megapixel camera (capable of shooting video in up to VGA resolution at 22 fps) and a front facing camera for video call. However it’s QVGA display has shrunk a bit to 2.36 inches, as compared to the 2.8-inch one of Nokia E61i.

The Nokia E71 even manages to squeeze in extra battery, with 20 days of standby, 10.5 hours of GSM talk or 4.5 hours of 3G talk. Also the Nokia E71 equipped with microSD card slots that will allow expanding the available 110MB memory with up to 8GB worth of additional storage. Users accustomed to previous Nokia QWERTY phones in the form factor like the E61i will find the screen noticeably smaller, but with the same number of pixels and an incredibly pocketable form factor there’s plenty to love about this fresh entry. The Nokia E71 will be available in grey steel and white steel.

Nokia E66

The Nokia E66 is the same business-grade device as the Nokia E71, without the QWERTY keyboard. It comes as a successor of the Nokia E65 and features a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus (capable of shooting video in up to VGA resolution at 22 fps), along with a front-facing cam for video calls, a large 2.4-inch TFT display of QVGA resolution, HSDPA, WiFi, and A-GPS (works with Nokia Maps). Infrared port (duh?), microUSB port, and Bluetooth (A2DP and EDR) are also on board. It also equipped with microSD card slots to expand the available 110MB internal memory up to 8GB.

Nokia E66 will also sport a built-in accelerometer, which would allow auto screen rotation, as well as silencing of incoming calls when the device is turned over.

Email messaging is the highlight of both devices as they both support a wide range of personal and corporate email standards such as Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email solution, as well as System Seven and Visto Mobile. These new Symbian smartphones also come with a new switch mode for switching between personal and work home screens. Encryption is also on board as well as mobile VPN support.

Both Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 are expected to begin shipping in July.
