Few photos of the upcoming Sony Ericsson W595 – Codenamed Linda – leaked on Journaldugeek. The Sony Ericsson W595 is a Walkman phone – based on the A2 software platform, featuring the Walkman 3 player, as well as an FM radio, will come bundled with the location services, including Google Maps. The Sony Ericsson W595 will be announced in the next few days or weeks for the July music product announcement. This phone will come in a white & red colour variant.

LG Dare Hands-On

Paul Miller from EngadgetMobile got his hands on the LG Dare that’s hitting Verizon Wireless today. According to his report, LG and Verizon put alot of effort on this device. Particularly with the hardware the LG Dare seems determined to differentiate itself from its iPhone competition, with helpful tactile feedback while typing, handwriting recognition, video recording (with in slow-mo) and editing, and the beefed-up photo taking capabilities that a 3.2 megapixel sensor and built-in flash provide. Also the sturdy and bright screen, peppy EV-DO Rev A., expandable memory and a flush 3.5mm headphone jack.

Samsung J800 Luxe, L700, and L870

Samsung J800 Luxe name might get users think it’s some kind of luxurious phone, but sorry guys, there’s nothing special or luxurious about this device. The Samsung J800 Luxe is a mid-range slidephone with 15mm thin body, 256k TFT color display (176×220 pixel resolution), features a 2 megapixel snapper, foto blog application, 3G support, Bluetooth with A2DP, music and video player, FM radio, and microSD card slot. A built-in office document viewer, HTML browser, POP3/IMAP4 mail client, RSS reader and mobile tracker are completing the feature list of this phone.

No pricing and availability info yet.

[ Samsung L700 ]

The next one here comes in candy-bar form factor which is relatively slim at only 12.8mm, the Samsung L700. This 3G phone sports a 2.1″ 256k TFT color display (128×160 pixel resolution) and 2 megapixel camera (no autofocus). Samsung’s traditional music player, FM radio, Bluetooth with A2DP, and all other feature found in Samsung J800 Luxe are also here packed inside the body.

Samsung L700 will be available in silver, pink, and gold color versions. No info on price and availability.

[ Samsung L870 ]

Samsung L870 is already announced on May 28th. Though it looks similar with Soul, Samsung L870 is not one of them. This phone is powered by Symbian OS and the UI is similar with all Nokia N-series device. At 13.5mm thickness, Samsung L870 armed with 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus and a 2.4″ TFT display support to 16 million color in QVGA resolution. Though without Wi-fi, this slider support HSDPA for hi-speed data transfer. The memory is expandable using the microSD card, supporting up to 4GB.

Samsung L870 will be available this August, but there’s no info on its price.

Sony Ericsson Paris and Beibei Cancelled

Bad news for Sony Ericsson fans – the long rumored Sony Ericsson P5 (codenamed Paris) and Sony Ericsson G702 (codenamed Beibei) smartphones have been cancelled. Word is that these handsets were cancelled because of too many hard critics from reviewers and other industry watchers regarding the specs and looks.

The Sony Ericsson G702 (codenamed Beibei) were also cancelled for unknown reasons. But there was some bad claims mainly to its look and design, though it still counted as a nice smartphone with great features and functionality.

Word is, although Paris and Beibei were cancelled, they still sold in Asia.

Newly Announced Sony Ericsson Handsets

Sony Ericsson has just announced their 5 newest handsets today. Starting with the 8 megapixel shooter Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Shot, followed by the Wii-like gaming device Sony Ericsson F305 along with other rest midrange/low-end device – the S302, the K330 and the J132.

Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Shot

Equipped with an 8.1 megapixel camera, Sony Ericsson C905 will be the next Cyber-shot flagship handset. Autofocus feature, face detection, image and video stabilization, red-eye reduction, BestPic, Smart Contrast, both a xenon flash and a photo flash, as well as geotagging complete the camera feature set. Also the Sony Ericsson C905 comes with a built-in accelerometer for screen auto rotation, TV-out port, Wi-Fi support. The scratch-resistant 2.4″ QVGA TFT color display will be the viewfinder when the device is operated as camera.

The Sony Ericsson C905’s dimension 104 x 49 x 19.5mm, and 136g weight. Features GSM/EDGE connectivity with UMTS – HSDPA support, not to forget the stereo Bluetooth, USB, and FM radio with RDS.

The Sony Ericsson C905 will be sold in early Q4 2008, with Copper-Gold, Ice-Silver, and Night-Black color version. a 2 GB Memory Stick Micro M2 is included in the box. No info on the price yet.

Sony Ericsson F305

Next are the Sony Ericsson F305 and the Sony Ericsson S302. Both are midrange device but the F305 got some nice gaming features to offer.

With the built-in accelerometer, the Sony Ericsson F305 gives an incredible gaming capabilities in this segment of price. This device packed with 2″ TFT color display (176 x 220 pixel resolution), a 2 megapixel snapper (no auto focus), stereo loud speakers, Bluetooth with A2DP profile support, and FM radio.

What’s cool in this device is the motion-based gaming, using the built-in accelerometer. Installed with 3 games — Bowling, Bass Fishing, and Jockey — user can install more motion games into the device.

The Sony Ericsson F305 will be sold in Q3 this year, and will be available in PolarWhite and MysticBlack color version. No words on the price.

Sony Ericsson S302

The Sony Ericsson S302 comes under the Snapshot series. Packed with quad-band GSM-EDGE support, a 2 megapixel camera (no AF), and 2″ TFT color display (176 x 220 pixel resolution), FM radio, M2 card slot, Bluetooth, and USB port.

The Sony Ericsson S302 will hit the market in the beginning of Q4 2008.

Sony Ericsson announced two of low-end handsets, features dust-resistant keypads and LED flashlights.

Sony Ericsson K330

The last two are low-end devices. First one here is the Sony Ericsson K330, packed with VGA-camera and a LED flashlight, and a 1.7″ TFT color at 128×160 pixel resolution. This phone has 10MB onboard memory, MP3 files support, FM radio, bluetooth.

The Sony Ericsson K330 will be sold in Gold-Black and Green-Black color schemes, in Q3 2008.

Sony Ericsson J132

The second device here is the Sony Ericsson J132 which doesn’t have any camera, but only a LED flashlight. Offering a dust resistant keypads and 1.5″ display (128×128 pixel), features a FM radio and nice battery life. With 4MB onboard memory, Sony Ericsson J132 has dualband GSM support, and will be sold in Night Black and Heaven Blue color version at Q3 this year.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Shot — codename Shiho — will be the next cyber-shot flaghship device from Sony Ericsson. This 8 megapixel snapper will become official on 17th this month, along with other phones. Sporting a 8.1 megapixel auto-focus camera with Xenon and photo flash, a 2.4″ TFT color display built from scratch-resistant mineral glass, features face detection application, picture and video stabilization, red-eye reduction, BestPic, and Smart Contrast. The A-GPS, built-in accelerometer, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, USBport, and a TV-out port, are all there stuffing Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Shot’s spec sheet. All those great features are powered by the battery, promising to last up to 380 hours of standby time, 9 hours of GSM calls, and 4 hours of 3G calls.

These new handsets, without any doubt, are ultra expensive but originality of design and material they have is unsurpassed. The body panels of these handsets are hand-assembled and made from 200 year old african blackwood, 42K sapphire crystal glass for display cover, with a titanium keyboard base plate, the keys are made from 18k gold with laser-cut roman style numbers, stainless steel battery cover on the back with magnetic locks, and not to forget the leather and gold decoration.

The Most Expected King – Nokia N96 Review

Nokia’s latest high-end device on the N-series line-up, the Nokia N96, shares many of N95’s features and attributes, including the dual-slide form factor, but it’s never meant to be N95 replacement.

General Design and Hardware

Overall, the design and looks is very similar to the N81, but we can also notice the N95 – N82 elements there. Polished and flat surfaces with silver highlights, makes the Nokia N96 really appealing and gives a high-end-device look to it. But this really is a high-end device. With its size at 103×55x18mm, the Nokia N96 is relatively big, since it carried along a large 2.8″ display. Compared to the N95, it’s a bit longer and wider but also a slightly thinner.

We can see the 2.8″ screen is similar with the one on the N95 8GB, still with the crystal-clear look and sharpness, giving an amazing images view and nice video-playback. The front panel under the display, ruled by a big D-pad — a touch sensivtive navi-wheel enabled one –, and surrounded by the multimedia keys. We can use the navi-wheel to move or scroll along the menu within the UI.

The Nokia N96’s back is ruled by the 5 megapixel camera, using the same material used on the N82 but added with a hinged plastic which can used as a stand when viewing in landscape mode. Very nice innovation, Nokia.

The side of it is using the same material as N82, a hard silver-gray plastic. On the right side, we’ll found the volume-rocker and camera key surrounded by stereo speakers. These speakers are great in quality and located for optimal sound-performance when the phone is being viewed in landscape mode, since the Nokia N96 is focused in Video and TV viewing.

Moving to the left side, we’ll see the microSD cardslot, supports up to 32GB of extra storage. Combined with the 16GB internal storage and the 256 flash memory, there will be a huge space for applications, photos, music, videos and maps.

On top side of the Nokia N96, placed by the power button, a 3.5mm audio-jack doubles as TV-Out port, and a lock key. While the bottom side of it has the charging port and microUSB port.

The keypad — housed in the bottom slide — is of a single-piece of plastic, and each row of keys are separated by some small raised ridges. At first look, people would think it’s going to be a disaster in usability. But in fact, they’re easy to use.

A series of multimedia keys, located in the top slide, are designed in a similar style to the keypad.

Camera – Video – Multimedia

The Nokia N96 armed with an autofocus 5 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss lenses, which should be giving similar clarity and sharpness on the photos and videos like the other 5 megapixel N-series device. Along with the camera, there’s a dual-LED flash. Nokia does have a good reason choosing LED flash instead of Xenon flash.

LED flashes, according few trusted source, is the best all around and able to perform what the Xenon flashes can’t. Xenon flashes might be the greatest at helping the camera to get the best quality images in lowest light conditions, but ~~sucks~~ not very good on giving continuous lights during video recording. There you go.

On the camera UI, you’ll see the geo-tagging. It’s a new feature for automatic location-tagging. The camera UI itself is similar with the one on previous N-series devices, with the icon based control settings.

Video wise, Nokia is unsurprisingly put an excellent video playback support on the Nokia N96, since it is video-focussed smartphone. Offering supports to a wide range of video digital formats, including H.264 at VGA resolution (640×480 pixel) at 30 frames-per-second. And thanks to the Flash Lite 3, the Nokia N96 also support flash video playing which is will be mainly used on the web-browser on stream online videos.

And being a video and TV focussed device, the Nokia N96 is planted with DVB-H — a superset of DVB-T technology that used in almost all Europian digital-terrestial broadcasts — that designed sophisticatedly to become a power-efficient one. This technology will provide us a higher quality pictures while efficiently save the device battery. And the TV application installed on the Nokia N96 will handle the mobile-TV entertainment function.
In addition, Nokia N96 is equipped with a dedicated DSP chip (Digital Signal Processing) which improve the audio quality and performance, and only use less power. This chip is usually found in high-end music players, and would make the Nokia N96 perform perfectly.

A standard N-series music player, PodCasting applications, Nokia Music Store, FM radio with RDS are there to give the audio entertainment you’ll ever need. With the supports of stereo Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack, and the stereo speakers. Nothing is missing on the audio department. Besides, the Nokia N96 is now updated with UPnP function, which used to connect media devices via home network.

Connectivity

Operates on quad-band GSM and dual-band WCDMA, packed along with Wi-Fi and integrated GPS receiver which is now becoming Nokia’s high-end device standard feature, Bluetooth with A2DP profile support, etc. The only thing that missing — compared to other N-series device — is the IrDA port. But i don’t think that it’s gonna be a big problem.

The microUSB port has been amazingly improved here on the Nokia N96. Some reviewers have made some test on the prototype, testing the USB performance. And guess what, fellas? It is five times faster than any other N-series device. Five times faster, guys!

Battery

Nokia N96 is powered by a BL-5F 950 mAh battery, which is the same battery used on the N95 but a step-down from the one used on the N95 8GB – the 1200 mAh. Some reviewers said that it is a shame that N96 couldn’t manage to squeeze a larger battery in its body, given the loads of features and functions of the N96, it should be powered with a good battery to provide a longer usage time.

The Nokia N96 really stands out in the crowd, with the beauty look of it which carried along a 5 megapixel snapper, GPS, Wifi and many other connectivity options, great softwares and applications, and an amazing TV receiver — all in your pocket. You’ll be thinking hard to find other device or anything equal to this amazing phone.

The Nokia N96 announced at the MWC 2008 in Barcelona – Spain claimed as “the most feature-packed smartphone”. Shares the same dual-slide form factor as Nokia N95 and most of its features, added with a pair of N-Gage gaming keys on the multimedia panel. Armed with a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with a dual-LED flash and using Carl Zeiss optics.

The Nokia N96 runs on Symbian S60 3rd-Edition with Feature-Pack 2, packed with an amazing 2.8″ QVGA color display, and a DVB-H TV receiver, along with plenty of connectivity features including HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS which works with Nokia Maps 2.0, Stereo Bluetooth, UPnP support, TV-out port and cables, and many more. Being a Video and TV focused device, Nokia N96 now added with a small hinged-stand placed around the camera, for optimal viewing in landscape mode.

A new feature called geo-tagging, to easily manage – tag – and share your photos. The 16GB internal memory, which further expandable to add more storage space up to 32GB via microSD card-slot, will give you a huge space of storage for your applications, games, photos, music, and videos.

The Silver CandyBar Smartphone Nokia N82 Review

The Nokia N82, newest entry of N-series device which comes in a traditional candybar form factor, was proudly announced recently by Nokia. Armed with a 5 megapixel autofocus camera along with a Xenon flash, an integrated GPS receiver, WiFi, Bluetooth, HSDPA support, and more features packed inside its solid-silver body – build mainly to match the N95 8GB flagship.

Coming in the most popular form-factor, candy-bar, the Nokia N82 have an advantage which other form-factor don’t have.

The traditional candybar form-factor are known as the most solid and strongest one, capable to stand up to drops – pressure – or any other abuse. In this case, we can’t or maybe don’t need to doubt the strength constructed on the Nokia N82’s body.

And it won’t be a high-end device at all if it was built for strength but doesn’t bring todays-must-have features while still stylishly designed. Made from hard-plastics with faux-metallic finish on the front, the case really make the Nokia N82 looks striking and feels very solid like it will last forever. At only 114g, the N82 is amazingly light, feels smaller and pocketable.

Being a camera focussed device, Nokia N82 sports the same 5 megapixel snapper used on N95 but added with some upgrades.

The first one is the Xenon flash, which is the first time in N-series line up. Xenon flash are best known to produce brighter lights than the LED flash, help the camera to get the best quality photos in lowest-light condition.

The second upgrade to the camera is the speed. Faster start-up time at 2.5 seconds, and less shutter-lag time (about 0.2 second). This would result a quicker shot-to-shot time at about 4 seconds total time.

Now what’s a good camera without a presence of a good protective caps?

The 5 megapixel autofocus camera which rules the back of the Nokia N82, protected by a strong sliding lens cap with a smooth slide mechanism which, when opened or closed will start or close the camera application.

The camera UI itself is similar with other N-series device which will allow users to access lots of settings, including ISO speed, white balance, exposure, sharpness, etc.

What’s new on the UI is the viewfinder-grid, dividing the screen by placing horizontal and vertical gridlines.

Video recording capability is similar with N95 in term of perfomance — at 30 frames-per-second of VGA resolution — which results to a great quality videos which can easily watched on a TV via TV-out port which doubled at the 3.5mm audio jack using the provided cable.

Ok, great quality photos, great quality videos. What else would we need to fully enjoy them? That’s right. A great screen display. The Nokia N82 is packed with a 2.4″ TFT screen supports to display 16 million colors in QVGA resolution. The display is still greatly visible even in direct sun-light. Some reviewers have made some test to the display performance linked to its power usage, and the result was it’s power efficient. Above the display, we will found the call speaker, the secondary camera for video-call, and the light sensor. Let’s look around on its sides.

The top side of the Nokia N82 is placed by a 3.5mm audio port beside, and the regular power button. This position is very nice placed to avoid the common “headphone wire” trouble that sometime become the worst part of using mobilephone.

On the left side, we’ll see the charging port which moved away from the usual location – the bottom side of the device. Above the charging port, there’s the microSD memorycard slot for expanding the storage space (2GB card is included in retail box). Above the cardslot, we’ll see the microUSB port which is used for PC connection.

Moving to the opposite side, we’ll see the stereo speakers at both end of this side. This speakers position is effective for video viewing or playing games in landscape mode. Between these speakers, placed by volume keys, gallery, and camera key.

Back to front, below the display, there’s the D-pad centered in the front panels, and the keypad. Ok, maybe some of you guys think that it looks like a disaster in usability.

The retro bar-keys are similiar with those on Nokia N91, and the sensitive navi-wheel enabled D-pad have raised a bit. These keys are actually easy to use than it looks.

The keypad dig into fingers and give enough grip which make texting without looking at the keypad is very easy.

Nokia N82 is equipped with most of today’s connectivity features, such as Wi-Fi with SIP client for VoIP calls, HSDPA, Bluetooth with A2DP and AVRCP support for wireless music experience, GPS with Nokia Maps.

The web-browser is improved on Nokia N82, with nice colum resizing, visual overview and history, minimap, etc — though it still has some bugs or somekind. But the N82 will likely have a firmware update that expected to add a Flash support and Web-Run-Time to it.

With all of the new features and upgrades inside, the Nokia N82 will likely competing really hard with Nokia N95 8GB to be best N-series Flagship device.
